Energy bars are a nutritious, on-the-go snack that's both convenient and better for you than most other alternatives. They contain protein, fiber, fat, minerals, vitamins, and of course, carbohydrates. Grains and oats usually provide the fiber for energy bars while milk provides the primary source of protein. Guarana and ginseng are added to some energy bars to help stimulate the brain and central nervous system and help increase maximum energy. Sodium along with potassium phosphate are sometimes included to reduce the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles while increasing the body's ability to consume oxygen.
Energy bars vary in size with bars as small as one ounce all the way up to five ounces with the average bar containing between 100 and 300 calories. At least 60 percent of these calories come from carbohydrates. A wide variety of flavors along with wholesome ingredients make the bars easy to digest and are usually advertised as the optimum amount of energy fuel available. Energy bars provide a great way to replenish the body when its energy stores become depleted.
